# Design Planner

> Chat with an AI interior design consultant. Describe what you want, generate a brief, and get routed directly to the right tools — free, no credits required.

## What it does

The Design Planner is a free AI chat tool that acts as your personal interior design consultant. It's the starting point for any project — you describe what you want, the AI helps you think it through, and then generates a **Design Brief** that summarizes your goals and recommends the exact tools to achieve them.

<Note>
  The Design Planner is **completely free** — it does not use any credits. Use it as much as you want.
</Note>

## How it works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Design Planner">
    Click **Design Planner** from your Dashboard.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Describe what you want">
    Have a conversation with the AI. Tell it about your room, your goals, your budget, your style preferences — in your own words, as casually or in as much detail as you like. Examples:

    * *"I want to turn my bedroom into a calm, minimal retreat. Currently it feels cramped and cluttered."*
    * *"Help me redesign my living room — I love Japandi but I'm not sure where to start or what to buy."*
    * *"I want to repaint my walls but I don't know what color works with my existing furniture."*
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate your brief">
    Once you've explained what you want, type **"generate brief"** in the chat. The AI will:

    1. Auto-generate a **Design Brief** — a structured summary of your goals, style direction, priorities, and constraints
    2. **Recommend the specific AIHDStudio tools** that best match your project
    3. Prepare the relevant prompts and settings so you can jump straight into generation
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go directly to the recommended tool">
    From the brief, click any recommended tool. The AI Planner hands off your context — if the tool requires a prompt or style selection, it's pre-filled based on your conversation. You skip the setup and go straight to generating.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## The Design Brief

The brief is automatically generated from your conversation — you don't fill in a form. It captures:

* **Room type and current state**
* **Desired style and mood**
* **Key priorities** (e.g. more light, better layout, new color palette)
* **Constraints** (budget, rental restrictions, existing pieces to keep)
* **Recommended tools** with suggested actions for each

The brief lives in the sidebar and updates each time you trigger a new generation.

<Tip>
  You can refine your brief by continuing the conversation and triggering "generate brief" again. The AI will update it based on the new context.
</Tip>

## Tool handoff

After brief generation, the Planner recommends tools and can route you directly:

| If your goal is... | The Planner routes you to... |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| Full room redesign | AI Designer (with style pre-selected) |
| Change wall color | Wall Color Changer |
| Visualize artwork | Art on Wall Visualizer |
| Rearrange furniture    | Layout Ideas                          |
| Find specific products | Product Finder |

For AI-generation tools, the planner pre-fills the prompt with your brief so you don't have to re-describe your goals. For navigation-only tools (like the color picker), it routes you directly to the right screen.

## What the AI can help with

| Topic              | Example                                                          |
| ------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Style selection | *"What's the difference between Japandi and Scandinavian?"* |
| Color theory | *"What accent colors go with a sage green sofa?"* |
| Furniture planning | *"How do I make a small living room feel bigger?"* |
| Budget planning | *"What should I prioritize buying first in a bedroom redesign?"* |
| Material selection | *"Linen vs velvet sofa for a family with kids?"* |
| Renovation advice | *"Should I paint or wallpaper an accent wall?"* |

## Tips

* Be specific about constraints: budget, rental restrictions, kids/pets, existing pieces you're keeping
* The AI remembers your full conversation — you can refer back to earlier suggestions
* Use the Planner *before* spending credits — a clear brief leads to much better generation results
